The Modern Quilt Guild is hosting a challenge that ends today. Michael Miller fabrics sponsored the event and donated fabric from the Madrona Road line by Violet Craft. My local guild (Columbus, Ohio) handed out our fabric at the December meeting and set up a local guild challenge of “Stars and Stripes”. I decided to try paper-piecing after a great demo by my friend Angela at the November meeting.
I used THIS pattern, but added another stripe to the inside of the star. I added a Kona solid (color: coal?) to the Madrona Road line to allow for some quiet negative space. Around the star block I added a strip-pieced miter-edged outline.
The quilt measures 17 1/2″ square. I machine- quilted it with a pale blue thread outlining the star repeatedly. The quilt is bound in Broken Herringbone with a few scraps of the Sweet Field and WIld Carrot. It is backed with Broken Herringbone with a strip of Memoir in charcoal.
A big Thank You to the Modern Quilt Guild for organizing this challenge, Michael Miller for donating the fabric, and Violet Craft for designing such a great line of fabric.
